Site description

Grand River Dam Authority's Grand River Energy Center is located in Chouteau, Oklahoma in Mayes County. Open since 1981, the center used to have two coal-fired units with a total capacity of 1,134-MW. Unit 1 was converted to natural gas in August of 2017 when the gas-fired Unit 3 was brought online. The GRDA Landfill is situated south of the coal-fired boiler units within the GREC complex and has been in operation since 1981. The total landfill permit area consists of approximately 116 acres, of which only 47 acres have been utilized for coal ash disposal. The landfill is regulated under the CCR rule. You can find the industry-reported data here. For more information on the Grand River Energy Center, see EIP’s 2019 National Coal Ash Report.
