Virginia City Hybrid Energy Center has 7 groundwater monitoring wells, 4 of which have been polluted above federal advisory levels based on samples collected between February 11, 2016 and September 17, 2019. Groundwater at this site contains unsafe levels of lithium and cadmium.
Site descriptionDominion Generation's Virginia City Hybrid Energy Center is located in St Paul, Virginia. Commissioned in 2012, this plant reclaims gob coal (or waste coal), as well as biomass, to produce electricity. It has a total capacity of 610 MW. The Curley Hollow Solid Waste Management Facility is regulated under the CCR rule. The facility was permitted as an active captive industrial waste landfill for the management of coal combustion residues and other waste generated at the station in July, 2009.
