Edgewater Generating Station has 9 groundwater monitoring wells, 7 of which have been polluted above federal advisory levels based on samples collected between April 08, 2016 and October 08, 2019. Groundwater at this site contains unsafe levels of boron, arsenic, molybdenum, lithium, cobalt, lead, radium, beryllium, chromium and thallium.
Site descriptionEdgewater Generating Station is a coal-fired power station owned by Alliant Energy. It is located near Lake Michigan in Sheboygan, Wisconsin. The station began operating in 1931, and used to have five units with the combined capacity of 834 MW. Four units have been retired and only Unit 5 is operating at a capacity of 414 MW. Seven coal ash disposal areas near the station are regulated under the CCR rule. Four of them are surface impoundments located on site and the other three are landfills in the I-42 Ash Disposal Facility, located southwest of the station. Edgewater Generating Station is slated to be retired in 2025. You can find the industry-reported data here.
