La Cygne has been in operation since 1973. The station handles coal ash in the Landfill, Upper AQC Impoundment, and Bottom Ash Impoundment which are regulated by the federal coal ash rule. The Lower AQC Impoundment is not regulated. The Upper AQC Impoundment is 334 acres in size, the Landfill is 131 acres, and the Bottom Ash Impoundment is 2 acres. A lawsuit was filed against La Cygne on April 23, 2018 claiming that emissions from the plant caused a woman to be sickened with an incurable illness after using and drinking water from a well downstream from the plant.
