Snapshot

Coleto Creek Power Station has 17 groundwater monitoring wells, 17 of which have been polluted above federal advisory levels based on samples collected between May 06, 2010 and October 03, 2019. Groundwater at this site contains unsafe levels of cobalt, arsenic, boron, molybdenum, nickel, lead, mercury, manganese, cadmium and thallium.

Site description

Coleto Creek Power Station is a 622-MW coal-fired power plant that began operations in 1980. Coleto Creek is owned by Dynegy in Fannin, Texas in Goliad County. Dynegy has planned for the station’s retirement by 2027. The power station has two ash disposal areas regulated under the federal coal ash rule: the Primary Ash Pond and the Secondary Ash Pond. This site is among the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's list of potential damage cases, indicating that it has potentially polluted groundwater or surface water at levels which threaten human health and the environment.
